Preventable Disease and Dysfunction

It is so easy for people to only focus on the symptoms and acute, painful effects of many dysfunctions. Pathological and Catastrophical problems are the most apparent. But they are only two of the four categories of dysfunction, and fortunately only take up a tiny percentage of total dysfunction. The other two categories are Posture and Mobility.


People get sick; it’s a part of life. Different diseases can rear their ugly head in different ways. How do you know you have a disease? Symptoms include, but are not limited to:

  • fever

  • nausea

  • vomiting

  • dizziness

  • night sweats

  • changes in bowel/bladder function and diarrhea.

  • Sudden/Unexplained weight gain or loss

If you are experiencing any of these with any regularity, you should probably see your physician.



 Life happens. Sometimes an external force that is out of your control comes at you and severely injures your body. You are playing soccer and someone lands on the side of your knee and the whole joint shatters. You’re walking up a staircase, trip, land with your hands, and your wrists break. It happens. If you break a bone, rip a muscle in two, or have profuse bleeding, please go see your doctor.

Posture and Mobility

How do you know you have poor posture and poor mobility? Simple. You learn about the basics of human movement from our blog and videos, and you examine how well you move through full range of motion positions. If you are missing full range of motion (not excessive range of motion, the amount of mobility you need to accomplish work safely) then you can have a real-time diagnostic tool for telling you that you are setting yourself up for injury, as well as for being weaker and less flexible than you should be.

It really is that simple. If you cannot squat to full depth, then we can know that you are setting yourself up for ankle, shin, knee, thigh, hip and/or low back pain and dysfunction.

If you do not have a pathological or a catastrophic problem, then more than likely, you have a mobility and/or movement problem. But it can be extremely difficult for people to decide what category of dysfunction their specific problem may fall into. Here are some examples of SYMPTOMS that can almost always be either fixed, helped, or altogether prevented through having a quality Movement and Mobility practice:
